What is the declawing procedure?
You will need to take your cats food away about 10 pm the night before the surgery. Water is fine. Bring him/her into the office between 8 and 9 am. If this is a new patient to our office, please bring any vaccination records with you, (vaccinations must be up to date to perform any surgeries in our office, we can do these on the same day if needed). Your cat will be admitted and taken back to her own cage. Because cats recover so quickly after surgery, we need to keep them quiet so they are kept overnight. You may pick up your cat anytime during our business hours the following day. The surgery is done under anesthesia. The last joint of the toe that contains the claw is surgically removed. (This joint is not necessary for walking). The surgical incisions are closed with surgical adhesive. A long acting pain injection is given.
