A carbohydrate gram counter typically lists the total carbohydrate value of a food item. When doing Atkins, however, the only carbs that matter are net carbs, which are provided in Dr.Atkins New Carbohydrate Counter (Vermilion 2003) and at www.atkins.com/uk. The glycemic index is a mesure of how quickley a given carbohydrate raises your blood-sugar levels. You can use the glycemic index to choose carbohydrate foods that will have a relatively low impact on your blood sugar, but remember, when doing Atkins your total Net Carb intake is of utmost importance. more
