What is the difference between a gas standard vent, direct vent and power vent water heater?
A standard vent water heater requires a vent provided by your HVAC contractor that will vent up and out of your roof. A direct vent water heater comes with a vent kit that will vent to an outside wall. The water heater must be in close proximity of the wall in order to use this type of heater. A power vent water heater requires 3 Schedule 40 PVC, CPVC or ABS pipe provided by your HVAC contractor that will also vent to an outside wall. This water heater is typically used when the placement of the water heater is not close enough to the outside wall to use a direct vent water heater. The combined horizontal and vertical venting and air intake runs can be up to 80 feet in length.
