There is no difference. It's a matter of semantics and company tags. A Jacuzzi is the manufacturer's name of a tub with jets, a hot tub has jets but isn't necessarily manufactured by Jacuzzi, a spa tub could be a Jacuzzi or another tub manufacturer that has jets. A garden tub has no jets. This is the same as calling all tissues Kleenexs or all copying machines Xeroxes. Any tub with jets could have any company name that makes them and there are many. Jacuzzi is a manufacturer's name. There are many names of companies that make jet tubs. We have a Jacuzzi brand garden tub...no jets. It's just a name.  more

Technically, there are differences between a Jacuzzi, hot tub and spa. But honestly, to us regular people these terms are interchangeable.

Jacuzzi is actually the name of a company that makes spas and whirlpool baths. Although Jacuzzi is not a generic name for spas, when someone says Jacuzzi, we all know what they are talking about. Just like when someone says, "Go xerox this." We know they want a copy of it, even though Xerox is a company that makes copy machines and not a word that means "copy."

According to the Encarta Dictionary, a spa is basically "a tub with a device for aerating or swirling water." A hot tub is usually round and made of wood with a liner inside as opposed to a spa, which is usually made from acrylic or fiberglass. Both hot tubs and spas offer jets, which usually creates the whirlpool effect. These should not be confused with jetted tubs, which are installed directly into your bathroom and filled and drained after each use. Personally, the jetted tub would be my choice for relaxation. You wouldn't have to mess with chemicals.

There are many features you can choose for your hot tub spa. There are portable, self contained spas and in-ground spas. Depending on your situation you can have an outdoor spa or have one set up inside your home. There are some with contoured seats and others that offer a lounge section. Some have lights with colored lens, and others with digital readouts. Some spas have the option for you to choose where your jets are located.
