What is the difference between a nanny and a babysitter?
Babysitters are typically called upon on an as-need basis, usually do not have a set working schedule, and may work for multiple families. Babysitters usually come to a family’s home to provide a few hours of childcare while the parents are away for an evening. Nannies are usually hired as long-term help to one family. Their job description includes more duties pertaining to the child such as homework help, driving to activities, laundry, cooking, and other housekeeping duties. Nannies generally have more training and experience and because of this are paid a higher rate, and offered benefits and vacation time. They usually have consistent hours and are paid a set hourly or weekly rate.
