A passport is simply a recognized identification document necessary for international travel. It is issued after appropriate identification checks by the country of which you are a citizen. Some people are citizens of more than one country and so may apply for two passports. It has your photo, some official information, an unique number and many blank pages which are stamped when you enter and leave a country (or a region such as the European Union). It doesn't automatically give you the right of entry into any country you wish to visit. Countries require people from other countries to obtain permission to enter or stay in their country for specific periods of time or purposes. When these countries give you permission to enter they either put a stamp or a specially printed sticker in your passport.
