What is the difference between a Rat Terrier and a Jack Russell Terrier?
Rat Terriers actually have a mix of other breeds in them and in general are calmer than most Jack Russels. Rat Terriers come in a variety of sizes, from a toy sized all the way up to a 30+ lb Decker. They also have 2 different body shapes: Type A which is a long legged, skinny body shape, and Type B (aka Teddy Roosevelt) which is a short legged, sturdier body shape. Type B’s are often mistaken for Jack Russels. Unlike Jack Russels, Rat Terriers tend to have an “off-switch” meaning while they can be very active at times, they are also more than happy to simply hang out with you.
