What is the difference between a Realtor and a regular Real Estate Agent? Also, what is a broker?

A. Realtors, agents and brokers are all licensed through the Department of Real Estate. The major difference is that Realtors uphold 17 separate codes of ethics, agents do not. Realtors also attend special meetings and classes that further their education and knowledge of Real Estate. The Real Estate industry is constantly changing, especially in California. Therefore we give you, the client, our best effort and professionalism when it comes to negotiating your offers and marketing your home. A broker is an individual who holds the licenses of all Realtors/agents in their office. They over see all transactions that their Realtors/agents conduct. Technically, the client is represented by the broker. The Realtor/agent is a representation of that broker and conducts transaction on that brokers behalf. In simple terms, a broker is the boss. In California, a Realtor or agent cannot conduct real estate business without hanging their license with a broker.
