What is the difference between a reconditioned transmission and an exchange transmission?

This is a little like the above FAQ where there is subtle differences but these can cause confusion. This is also covered in the AS 3564.1 Australian standard. But very basically an exchange geartbox\transmission is any other gearbox\transmission that was not originally fitted to that vehicle e.g. it could also mean a second hand unit from the wreckers. Now a reconditioned transmission is something that has had specific tasks (AS 3564.1) performed on it and comes with a warranty and it is as new or better. Our definition of an Exchange Transmission is one that has been Reconditioned and is like new or better and comes with a full warranty that is expected to last as long or longer than original.
