A trail shoe will have a more aggressive outsole for better traction and more dense midsole to protect from stone bruises. Most trail shoes will be water resistant and have a more protected toe upper. They will be a darker color to hide mud stains. The more hard core trail shoes will have a lower heel height which helps prevent turning ankles on rough terrain. more
