Acid Free mats are 100% acid free in the core and back of the mat. Anything touching your artwork will be acid free. That is important because acids will eventually “eat” into your artwork, causing brown spots. Regular mats are 90% acid free in the core and back of the mat. The color of the regular mats will also fade a lot faster than the color of an acid free mat. Pictures Plus recommends using acid free materials for all your framing.
