What is the difference between adaptations and modifications?
Adaptations refer to adjustments in teaching or instructional techniques while maintaining the same lesson goals and objectives for all. How a student either receives instruction or demonstrates learning can be changed. The content of the lesson or curricular area remains the same as for other students. For example: A math worksheet can be adapted by limiting the number of problems the child is responsible to complete, but the content remains the same. Modifications refer to changing the content of instruction. What the student is responsible for learning is altered in an effort to allow participation in the general curriculum to the maximum extent appropriate. Changing the level of difficulty or including fewer objectives for an individual student are examples of a modification.
