What is the difference between an “independent” and “private” school?

0

There are over 900 private schools registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education. CIS (The Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario) has 44 member schools – 41 in Ontario and 3 out-of-province Associate Members. Our schools are termed “independent” as they all have Independent Boards of Governors who are responsible for the long-term policy directions for their individual schools. As such, CIS schools have a measure of accountability built in.
