What is the difference between an “open” and “closed” comedo?
The open comedo’s orifice is open and the material is more compact. The closed comedo forms an inflammatory process by the lipids rupturing the dermis. This results in an entire comedo mass breaking into the dermis and producing a full inflammatory response. This results in a nodule or pustule or a combination of both.
