The difference is basic is in contrast to applied (in which community is mobilisation categorized. Basic sociology seeks to make discoveries through observations and analysis of sociol groups w/o attempting to make changes in those groups. In another words, basic and applied goes hand in hand, one is more a foundation than the other. Basic being the foundation and the applied put to the test without changing the scenerio setting sorta speak. Hope this helps.
