What is the difference between Depression and Borderline personality disorder?
Depression is a mood disorder, characterised by low mood, feelings of helplessness, worthlessness and guilt. Some people with depression also have physical symptoms such as aches and pains, increased/decreased appetite, insomnia or excessive sleep. Borderline personality disorder is characterised by an instability is mood, relationships and self image. Moods often change quickly and dramatically, reacting excessively to little stimuli, then taking longer than usual to return to baseline. They often show inappropriate anger. Have an intense fear of abandonment, real or imagined. They often engage is self destructive and impulsive behaviours such as self harm, over spending, binge eating, promiscuity and reckless driving. They tend to have stormy relationships, idealising someone one minute and devaluing them the next. Many people that suffer from borderline personality disorder also suffer from depression.
