DVD - Digital Video Disc - is an optical disc storage media format that can be used for data storage, including movies with high video and sound quality. DVDs resemble Compact Discs as their diameter is the same (120 mm (4.72 inches) or occasionally 80 mm (3.15 inches) in diameter), but they are encoded in a different format and at a much higher density. CD - Compact Disc is an optical disc used to store digital data, originally developed for storing digital audio.  more

DVD is a popular optical disc storage media format. Its main uses are video and data storage. Most DVDs are of the same dimensions as compact discs (CDs) but store more than six times as much data. Variations of the term DVD often describe the way data is stored on the discs: DVD-ROM has data which can only be read and not written, DVD-R and DVD+R can only record data once and then function as a DVD-ROM. DVD-RW and DVD+RW can both record and erase data multiple times. The wavelength used by standard DVD lasers is 650 nm, and thus has a red color. DVD-Video and DVD-Audio discs respectively refer to properly formatted and structured video and audio content. Other types of DVDs, including those with video content, may be referred to as DVD-Data discs.
