What is the difference ,between electrically neutral & astable atom?
An electrically neutral atom has the exact same number of electrons (negative charges) as it does protons (positive charges). A stable atom has a full outer shell of electrons, which is usually 8 in its outer shell with some exceptions like hydrogen and helium. The difference is evident when you take an electrically neutral atom, and add or subtract electrons to make is stable, but no longer neutral. Chlorine, Cl, is electrically neutral with 7 electrons in its outermost shell. To achieve stability, it will gain an extra electron, making its overall charge -1. You would write this ion as Cl-.
