What is the difference between exothermic and endothermic reactions ?
A better definition is that an exothermic reaction is a reaction in which the products have less energy (are more stable) than the reactants. The “extra” energy is given off as heat into the system. An endothermic reaction is one in which the products have more energy (are less stable) than the reactants. Since the products are less stable/have more energy than the reactants, energy must be put into the system to give the reaction enough energy to occur. This type of reaction is called endothermic.
