Glass is made from molten sand, & the more lead oxide content the more the mix becomes lead crystal. 12.5% lead is crystalglass; 24% lead is lead crystal; 31% lead is full lead crystal; 40% lead is optical crystal. The addition of lead increase brilliance, colour, clarity & weight. Manufacturers’ labelling often contains limited information regarding lead content.
