What is the difference between greco-roman and freestyle wrestling?
—Shail Singh, Dombivli Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling have a lot of similarities and come under the same category in the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. However, the rules of both the disciplines are a bit different. In Greco-Roman, wrestlers can only make use of their upper-body strength during a match. Freestyle wrestlers can use any part of their body — even tripping and lifting of the opponents’ legs are allowed. Greco-Roman wrestling is only for men while freestyle wrestling is for both men and women. Freestyle wrestling for women was included at the 2004 Olympic Games.
