What is the difference between kielbasa and smoked sausage?

0

Kielbasa means sausage in Polish so, it’s Polish sausage. Usually smoked sausage is basically American style sausages that is smoked. There are Kielbasas that is slightly smoked, but usually unsmoked. Tastes wise closer to Italian pork sausage. If you are referring to the one at grocery store like Hillshire, unless you are a connoisseur of sausages, can’t really taste the differences. You need to get authentic Kielbasa (sausage shops) to be able to differentiate the taste. In most likely, Kielbasa is thicker than most smoked sausages. I find that Polish Kielbasa is a little bit saltier, and fattier. Smoked sausage of course has a strong or stronger smoke flavor. There are different kind of smoke sausages so there are different taste – some are heavy in garlic, spices, hotness… Texture wise, it’s firmer than Polish since its smoked – at least the one package for grocery sales. Differences are very subtle – Frankfurter (German sausage) is softer, since it’s has more moisture than Polis
