What is the difference between Kung Fu, Karate & Tae Kwon Do?

0

Kung Fu, Karate, and Tae Kwon Do all fit under the umbrella of “martial arts”. The primary difference between them is where they each originated. Kung Fu, as mentioned above, originated in China. Karate is from Japan and Tae Kwon Do is from Korea, both with origins that trace back to China. Kung Fu is the oldest of the three. In the 1950’s, many westerners were being introduced to Karate and it soon became a household name synonymous with the generic term “martial arts”. Karate became more well-known in the United States due to it’s early start in this country. It was not until the 1970’s that westerners became introduced to Kung Fu through Hollywood, namely Bruce Lee.
