What is the difference between mindfulness and concentration?
Mindfulness is a mental observation of the distractions in our own mind from the position of the inner observer. It is purposeful, impersonal, self-observation of the field of our mind. A concentration meditation is a disciplined, internal focus of attention often upon a single thing such as a mantra or the breath. Mindfulness is often employed in aiding one in becoming disciplined in their concentration meditation. We also use it in spiritual psychology as a way to observe the anatomy and activities of our consciousness.
