What is the difference between PGCE and GTP?
GTP = school based for the whole year. You attend monthly training sessions at your training institute. Much better if you want to get ‘hands on’ experience of what teaching’s actually like on a day to day basis. Plus, you get an unqualified teacher’s wage of about £14,500. PGCE = college based, studying the dynamics/theories/practises of teaching and going into different schools to put these ideas into practise. Good to see a range of different schools, although you only get approx 6k grant. (Not too sure of this, as I did the GTP!) The GTP is not recognised abroad, whereas the PGCE is (which is stupis, ‘cos at the end of the day, you’re still a qualified teacher!
