A. Primary care is the initial care that you would receive for services such as health assessments. The following departments are considered primary care at Kaiser Permanente: Pediatrics, Family Practice, and Internal Medicine. If we determine that you need to be seen by a specialist, we will refer you for specialty care. Specialty care departments are all departments other than those listed as primary care. Depending on where you receive your care, you will be required to pay either a primary care copayment or coinsurance or a specialty care copayment or coinsurance.
