What is the difference between “Printed” Acrylic Fabrics and “Solution Dyed” Fabrics?
“Printed” Acrylic Fabrics use the same dyes and silk-screening process as other non-woven printed fabrics such as cotton and spun polyester. Although the Acrylic base material of a printed acrylic fabric is more durable for outdoor usage, the colors will fade to the same degree as an indoor fabric. Printed fabrics are often associated with elaborate floral patterns. Spun Polyester and Printed Acrylic Fabrics perform best in indoor and covered outdoor areas where direct sunlight can be controlled. “Solution Dyed” Acrylics (such as Sunbrella™) are woven fabrics which consist of individual solution-dyed fibers with a fluorocarbon finish to enhances water repellency. Solution-dying is the process of adding color to acrylic fibers during manufacturing while they are in a liquid state. Woven fabrics generally appear as solids or blends rather than larger designs. Solution Dyed fabrics offer superior fade and mildew resistance.
