With chipping a new chip is soldered into your ECU in place of the standard one, this is an invasive procedure that physically alters your car, and is, therefore, very obvious to the trained eye. Remapping is a software only update that is done via the OBD2 port on your car, and requires nothing to be physically opened or altered.
