Wood shrinks and swells in response to its moisture content. Redwood shrinks and swells less than other woods. Wood that is milled without any drying is referred to as “green” lumber. It will shrink more than wood that has been dried through air-or kiln-drying, which is referred to as “seasoned” lumber. The products in the Simpson Redwood Collection are “seasoned”, which means they are virtually “pre-shrunk” and are less likely to warp, cup or check.
