What is the difference between short and long UVA rays?
There are two types of UVA rays – long and short. While UVB rays penetrate at the epidermis (top layer of skin), UVA rays penetrate deeper into the dermis, causing deep tissue damage (collagen and DNA damage.) UVB = penetrates skin surface (Epidermis) UVA short = penetrates middle skin layer (Epidermis) UVA long = penetrates deeper skin layer (Dermis) Scientific studies have shown that UVA rays can contribute to skin cancer by diminishing the skins natural protective mechanism. Therefore, it is extremely important to protect against both short and long UVA rays.
