Both are very rigorous courses that colleges like to see on high school transcripts. They are the most rigorous courses that Rowland offers and are excellent preparation for college. Both types of courses require payment of fees for taking exams. The extent to which colleges will give credit or placement varies among colleges. IB assessments include teacher grades, exams, oral assessments, plus external assessments. AP exams are one-day exams that include multiple-choice and writing assessments. IB exams are given in May and are graded on a 1 to 7 scale, with 7 being the highest. AP exams are given in May on a 1 to 5 scale, with 5 being the highest.
