What is the difference between the corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous metals?
ferrous metals corrode when they oxidise (get rusty) but non-ferrous metals either wont oxidise, or in the case of aluminium, actually harden (if you scratch an aluminium surface you will notice it is shiny underneath as only the outside oxidises and this strengthens the metal. All metals will dissolve in an acid solution eventually (different speeds depending on the metal and the acid and the result would be a salt (sodium and hydrochloric acid will result in sodium chloride, or common table salt and water for example) But Ferrous is the only metal that will rust.
