A8. The other Drought Watch temperature anomaly maps are based on actual temperature readings measured at about 1m above the ground. The temperature observations are made in point locations (at climate stations) and the data is interpolated to provide continuous data values over the agricultural area of Canada. The SSM/I product is based on temperature at the Earths surface, which may be useful for agricultural applications. The satellite sensor also directly provides measurements that are continuous over Canada and do not require interpolation.
