What is the difference between the Tungsten and Fluorescent lights?

0

Photographically there is virtually no difference, they both have a colour temperature of 3200K, although it is said that fluorescent has a ’softer’ light than tungsten that can help when photographing products like jewellery. But at an operational level there are three main advantages of fluorescent over tungsten. Firstly, fluorescent is a lot cooler running which might have some benefits if you have a lot of work to do. Secondly, because the fluorescent light is only 85 watts rather than the 500 watts for tungsten they are a lot cheaper to run, and finally whereas tungsten bulbs have a life of around 50-60 hours, the fluorsecent have a virtually lifetime use at around 7500 hours.
