Answer Dear Chris Thank you for your question. The main differences between white and black rhinoceroses are as follows: 1. The white rhinoceros has a hump on its head, while the black rhinoceros does not. 2. The white rhinoceros has a broad muzzle, with a squared upper lip, which it uses to obtain as much grass as possible. The black rhinoceros has a mobile, pointed upper lip, which it uses to browse on leaves, buds and shoots. The lip enables it to pick individual leaves and to avoid thorns. If it had a broad lip, it would encounter many thorns. Similarly, if the white rhinoceros had a pointed lip, it would take in smaller mouthfuls and would spend more time feding. 3. The white rhinoceros keeps its head low, to enable it to feed on grass. The black rhinoceros keeps its head high, as it needs to reach small trees and bushes. 4. Both species have two horns, but the black rhinoceros occasionally has three horns. I hope this helps.
