What is the difference between Tracys Kenpo and American Kenpo?
The Tracy System of Kenpo is the complete Kenpo art, with roots in Japan. American Kenpo is a limited version of that original art. Ed Parker, the founder of American Kenpo, and the Tracy brothers (Al, Jim, and Will) all trained together in California studying the original Kenpo. Ed Parker went on to change the system he taught, removing a majority of the techniques, and renaming it to “American Kenpo”. The Tracy brothers stayed loyal to the original art, and that is what the Al Tracy studios across the country still teach today. For more history, please visit our page titled “What is Kenpo”.
