What is the difference between Video-On-Demand, streaming and download?
“Video-On-Demand” (VOD) is a general term for individual electronic access to movie-material. “VOD-download” means you have to download the movie-data, this – depending on your interned connection – can take an hour or more. When download is complete, you can watch the movie. With most of these one ‘rents’ the movie for one or more days in which time you can watch it as often as you like. Once the ‘rental-time’ is up the file cannot be played anymore and you end up with ‘dead’ data you can only delete. For this ‘rental’ mechanism to work, you usually have to install additional software. “VOD-Streaming”, unlike “VOD-Download” leaves no traces, is technologically very simple, but makes much higher demands on the quality of the internet-connection.
