What is the difference between Webmail and Herald?

0

Herald is Oxford University’s central email system. You can access your Herald email account by several methods. One way is to use an email client program such as Outlook Express or Eudora. Another option is to use your normal web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari etc.) to access Herald’s web interface which is called Webmail (https://webmail.ox.ac.uk/). You can use whichever method suits you best, or even alternate between them – you access exactly the same remote inbox and mail folders in each case, except that email clients operating in POP mode normally remove new messages from the central system so they are then only accessible on that local machine. Even if you normally use an email client such as Outlook, some administrative operations such as setting up a vacation message need to be done via the Webmail interface.
