What is the difference between wicker, rattan, and bamboo?

0

A. Wicker is a general term for a product which is produced by weaving materials into each other, resulting in a new form that is greater than the sum of its parts. Wicker is traditionally woven from natural materials such as peeled rattan, bamboo, or grasses. More recently, wicker also includes weaving synthetic materials to create products that are more resilient to full exposure to outside environments – for instance, our ALLWEATHER items. Rattan is a vine, or climbing palm of the genus Calamus. Rattan is naturally solid, composed of many fibers which run the length of the vine. Bamboo is a woody, treelike grass that is a member of one of the genera Bambusa, Phyllostachys, or Dendrocalamus. Bamboo is naturally hollow; our items that refer to solid bamboo have had the ends of the poles filled or capped.
