What is the difference of Power Steering Fluid and Automatic Transmission Fluid?
I for one have tried using ATF on my car apparently the effect of it’s use cannot be felt immediately. Because, for one, ATF can be used as a temporary substitute for power steering fluid but not a permanent substitute. The difference is Tolerance to heat. Power Steering fluids are stable when subjected to heat caused by friction of the moving metal parts whereas the Automatic Transmission Fluid has the property to foam or expand when it is exposed to elevated temperature. Meaning, when ATF expands, it created a high pressure environment to the tubing and inner component of the power steering system. When this happens, it won’t take long before the fluid would try to find a vulnerable part to leak. It can be in joints, tubes and hoses that have been weakened by the elevated pressure of the expanding fluid. When this happens, your power steering system would tend to loose its efficiency due to the loss of fluid. If dont notice this leaks, it may lead to the untimely repair for your vehi
