What is the easiest fruit tree to take care of?
I’ve grown apples, peaches, pears, plums and cherries. All of them have bugs and diseases that can make the fruit unusable. The trees have to be trained, weeded, watered, pruned, thinned, harvested and protected from weather and critters. My recommendations: Get dwarf trees. Full sized ones are too big to take care of. Pay attention to pollination. You need two compatible trees of different varieties for most apples, pears, plums and cherries. Peaches are self pollinating. It’s also easy to tell when peaches are ripe and ready to pick. Check with your cooperative extension to see what varieties of tree fruit will do well in NJ. http://njaes.rutgers.edu/pubs/subcategor… If you don’t have your heart set on trees however, strawberries are very easy to grow, thrive in NJ and taste great!
