Vasectomies are far more effective in general that a woman having her tubes tied. Also, within 6 months of birth, apparently having your tubes tied is only about 80% effective (something to do with the hormones). Having a vasecotmy does also not come with the surgery risks of a tubal ligation. My hubby had a vasectomy shortly after our daughter was born (we were 36 and 40, already have a blended family with 4 children, so a sensible deicision). We did research all of our options, and the vasectomy is 99.99% effective. You just nee to make sure that before relying on the effectiveness of the vasectomy that your husband goes and has his sperm sampled around 6-8 weeks after the vasectomy to ensure there is no sperm.
