What is the Emory Village roundabout and street construction project?
The $2.1 million project is part of a DeKalb County plan for street and traffic improvements that will improve traffic flow through the Village, aesthetics in the Village, as well as pedestrian safety. When the project is complete during the summer of 2011, the roundabout will provide a scenic centerpiece for the heart of the Village. The ‘road diet’ on North Decatur Road through the Village will allow for one lane of through traffic in each direction, center turn lanes, bike lanes, improved pedestrian access, sidewalks, and more than 50 new trees. These improvements will not only be scenic, but will also moderate traffic flow through the Village and support it as a community gathering spot. A small piazza park is also planned.
