What is the estimated number of people killed by Stalin in Russia?
The answer to the question really depends on what is really meant. Do we count the criminals executed for grave crimes? Or are we talking only about those wrongfully executed during the “repressions” period? Normally, the latter is implied, but considering the importance that was lately assigned to the issue by various US propaganda outlets, a lot of creative accounting is often used when answering this question. The most popular trick used in this case is taking the official and more-or-less well-documented statistics on the number of repressed and presenting it as the data on the number of killed by Stalin’s regime. This is exactly the trick the other answer in this thread is trying to employ (I don’t know whether the author of that answer was playing the trick intentionally, or was simply confused).
