What is the etiquette concerning engagement parties? ?

I’m one person that doesn’t agree with having to get an engagement gift, bridal shower gift, and a wedding gift. To me, that’s asking your guests to spend too much. For engagement parties I usually do what you are doing. I’ll bring a bottle of wine or champagne. If I do get a gift (far and few) I’ll get something like a nice picture frame for an engagement photo or a wedding planning book for the bride (if I know she’s having a wedding).
