Human rights are an essential element of the EU’s external relations. As it does vis-à-vis other third countries, the EU takes a deep interest in the human rights situation in Iran. It has expressed its views about it on a range of occasions. All 27 EU Member States notably co-sponsored the resolution on human rights in Iran which the United Nations General Assembly’s Third Committee adopted on 21 November 2008.
