What is the fastest processor you can get on a computer out there right now?
Fastest single CPU is the 3.2GHz Quad Core QX9770. There is also the QX9775 with the same specs but it is a XEON server processor that has just recently been adapted to desktop use with Intel’s SkullTrail motherboard with two CPU sockets. So using the QX9775 and the SkullTrail motherboard you can have two seperate Quad Core CPU’s on the same board and they both overclock to 5.0GHz or more with proper cooling. There are no 4GHz or 5GHz Dual or Quad Core Desktop CPU’s on the market. Most higher end CPU’s can be overclocked that high, but again you need the proper cooling. Both Intel and AMD have nice, high end Dual and Quad Core CPU’s but Intel chips all have larger Shared Caches giving them a big advantage over AMD. It’s why AMD is so cheap, only way they can compete is to under cut Intel’s prices.
