What is the fastest way to build your credit (100+ points) in a year?
I raised my credit score from about 550 to 660 in about three months. Here’s how I did it. 1. First I went over my credit report with a fine tooth comb. I challenged everything that was incorrect. I found that one of my biggest problems was that my student loan debt was showing 4X what it really was. Some loans were showing twice, and others that were paid off were still showing. 2. I paid down my credit cards to at least 1/2 the credit limit. 3. I didn’t apply for any new loans or credit cards while I was trying to raise my credit. 4. I had a previous bankruptcy. Many off the debts were still showing as owed. I changed them to show that they were part of the bankruptcy. 5. One of the credit bureaus still had the discharged bankruptcy showing as “open.” I had it corrected. 6. Initially, some of the creditors refused to remove inaccurate information.
