What is the future of Indian English poetry?

In many ways, the novel has killed Indian English poetry. Someone recently said that if poetry is like classical music, the novel is like film music! So one can see why poetry has been edged out. However, it’s not as if it has no future. It will continue to be written, and each generation will have its own poets, dedicated to the form, though the halcyon days of Indian English poetry were certainly during the 1970s. There are allegations that Indian English literature is not authentic. What do you think? This is rubbish. Who makes these allegations? Regional writers? Failed writers? And, what exactly do they mean by ‘authentic’? Indian English writers have found their own voice and their own themes. There maybe influences of canonical writers on their work, the way the poet Nissim Ezekiel, whose biography I wrote, was influenced by T S Eliot. There may be inter-textuality too.
