What is the German/Austrian personality?

The German people do seem to have difficulty understanding English humour. Heinz Harold Frenzen said he had that problem with Damon Hill, when they were partners in Formula One. However, he learnt to understand it and found it funny. I think Damon Hill had a similar effect on Michael Schumacher. I have a friend in Austria and I sent her a funny video clip and she watches it over and over again. I think most cultures have a different approach to humour. I often find American comedy just isn’t funny. In some countries they don’t appear to have a sense of humour at all. I remember a Japanese company some years ago sending their executives to the UK to learn how to enjoy themselves. The other thing that effects them is their religion and other beliefs – it can have a profound effect on personality.

I think you mean stereotype not personality. The other problem is that the Austrians and possibly the Germans as well would not like being bundled with the other. It’s like asking what the English/Scottish personality/stereotype is.
